Discover Modena
Art and culture
Modena is a city with over 2000 years of history, but it is from the year 1000 that it began to take on its current appearance.
The Duomo, Ghirlandina & Piazza Grande, admirable examples of Romanesque architecture, are Unesco World Heritage Sites.
The Ducal Palace, residence of the Estense court and today home to the
Military Academy, is one of the most important princely palaces of the 17th
century.
The Estense Galleries bear witness to the passion for collecting of the Dukes of Este.
City of music
Italian opera singing is also a Unesco World Heritage Site and Modena is its capital:
Mirella Freni, Raina Kabainvanska and Luciano Pavarotti, ‘the Maestro’, are Modenese interpreters of Belcanto known and appreciated all over the world.
The Pavarotti-Freni Municipal Theatre (1838) and the Vecchi-Tonelli Music Institute carry on the opera tradition of the city.
The Casa Museo Luciano Pavarotti allows visitors to get closer to the memory and most intimate side of the most famous opera singer of all time.
Not just opera: Modena is the cradle of Italian beat.
It was here that true sacred monsters of Italian music, such as Francesco Guccini and Vasco Rossi, were born and took their first steps.
It was in Modena that the ‘Vasco Modena Park’ concert was held, with more than 225,000 paying spectators (world record).
Land of motors
Modena, the earth of Motor Valley: cars that have come out of the factories and entered into legend.
The Enzo Ferrari Museum in Modena and the nearby Ferrari Museum in Maranello will introduce you to the world’s most famous sports car and the man who created it.
The Maserati fabric and showroom, The Umberto Panini Museum of vintage cars and motorbikes, the Stanguellini Museum, the Righini collection, the Pagani Automobili, the Modena Autodrome: this is why Modena is the motor capital.
And just a few kilometres from Modena are the museums and factories of Lamborghini and Ducati.
Land of flavours

From tortellini to zampone, from traditional balsamic vinegar to Modena ham, from parmigiano-reggiano cheese to Lambrusco, Modena’s culinary tradition is always amazing.
